Titus Salt Junior went by horse-drawn carriage along his private drive from MilnerField, then crossed the River Aire to work for his dad in the massive mill on Victoria Road, Saltaire.

Sir James Roberts of MilnerField & Saltaire married Elizabeth Foster of Harden on 14 May 1873 in Bingley Church. Their seven children were dogged by tragedy and scandal. Despite a failed appeal to the House of Lords, younger daughter Alice was finally divorced in 1938 from the insane killer with whom she had eloped. She then married a local government officer and lived a quiet life on the Isle of Man. Alice was mourned by her six children when she died aged 101 in 1982. ... See MoreSee Less
