Names of other barges on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, most of which had a master and mate on board.
I would surmise that the boats did not always carry families, it would have depend on the volume of cargo they carried.

ADA was this the barge that william worthington killed his wife after a drunken argument and he was hanged at Liverpool in 1875.
I am not sure if it is the same boat, I have done some research to show it was moored in Saltaire in 1871.However, I have found some extracts from the Manchester Courier & General Advertiser and the Bradford Observer that carry articles about William Worthington 33, who murdered his wife whilst his flat boat The Ada (barge) was in Liverpool on 29 August 1874. He was tried at Liverpool Assizes, condemned and executed at Kirkdale Gaol on 4 January 1875.
